“In Worsted” nei colori dell’uva!

Sono eccitatissima perchè domani per la prima volta entrerò nel magico mondo delle lane di Un Filo Di, laKnithouse che fino ad adesso ho solo conosciuto nella sua versione on-line, acquistando i ferri Knit Pro, accessori per la maglia e quant’altro per me e coordinando gli acquisti delle Knittable.

Eh si, domani mi faccio proprio un bel regalo perchè oltre a visitare il bellissimo negozio di Un Filo Di (e chiaramente dedicarmi allo shopping) parteciperò anche al workshop di Emma Fassio intitolato “In Wrosted”. Nessuna notizia è trapelata riguando al modello al quale lavoreremo, l’unica informazione che Emma ci ha dato è che lavoreremo con un filato Worsted (come del resto dice anche il titolo del workshop)  nei colori dell’uva.

Sono impaziente…non vedo l’ora che arrivi domani mattina!

Stroll in Georgetown Beanie and Mittens is an original pattern by Federicaknits and it will be available on Etsy and Ravelry store Monday 21st November 2011.

I have never been to Georgetown, Washington, but this the look I would like to wear when I will visit this popular trendy town!

The beanie is knitted in the round on a circular needle with the magic loop technique, but you can easily work both using dpns or two circulars.  The two mittens are knitted together in the round on a long circular needle, this means that when you bind off you will have finished both mittens avoiding the “second-mitten syndrome”. If you would like to knit the mittens separately you will be given instructions to do so.

The pattern has been tested by 4 knitters who I would like to thank for the great job done!

Non sono mai stata a Georgetown, ma questo è il look che vorrei avere quando mi capiterà di visitare questa città conosciuta per i suoi locali trendy!

Le istruzioni per il cappello sono state scritte per la lavorazione in tondo con l’uso della tecnica del magic loop, ma si possono tranquillamente usare i ferri a doppia punta o i due ferri circolari seguendo le medesime indicazioni. I guanti sono realizzati insieme su un ferro circolare, quindi quando chiuderete il lavoro vi troverete con entrambi i guanti pronti da indossare evitando la “sindrome del secondo guanto”. Nel caso voleste lavorare separatamente i due guanti all’interno del modello troverete le indicazioni per farlo.

Il modello è stato testato da 4 knitters che ringrazio con tutto il cuore per l’ottimo lavoro svolto!

Knitting for Penguins

Il 5 ottobre scorso al largo della Nuova Zelanda a circa 22 km dalla costa la nave Rena, contente 1700 tonnellate di petrolio, si è incagliata provocando la dispersione centina di tonnellate di greggio in mare causando la  morte di circa 1.400 animali, tra cui i pinguini che muoiono per due principali ragioni: l’impossibilità di raggiungere la giusta temperatura corporea a causa del petrolio che gli si è attaccato addosso e l’avvelenamento causato dall’ingerimento della sostanza quando si leccano per pulire le loro piume.

Il popolo delle magliste è subito accorso in aiuto di queste simpatiche creature coinvolte dalla blogger di theyarnkitchen.blogspot.com che ha lanciato l’appello on-line ricevendo in pochi giorni 600 maglioncini per pinguini realizzati seguendo il modello pubblicato sul blog.

I maglioncini verranno indossati dai pinguini nei centri di soccorso per animali  in attesa che arrivi il loro turno per essere ripuliti.

Sul sito della skeinz.com viene proposto l’acquisto del pinguino Flip con un coordinato di maglioncini per i vostri regali di Natale. Inutile dire che il 100% del ricavato verrà versato nel Penguin Rescue Fund per l’aiuto dei Penguin.

October 5^th 2011 offshore Tauranga, New Zealand the cargo ship Rena carrying 1,700 tons of petrol ran aground the reef with the consequent dispersal of  hundreds of tons of oil causing the death of  something like 1,400 animals, among which penguins who die for two main causes: The cannot keep their body temperature and they poison themselves licking the petrol stuck on their feathers.

Knitting people, thanks to the communication campaign launched on the blog theyarnkitchen.blogspot.com, are taking an active part in the rescue procedure knitting  penguins’ jumpers (pattern provided here) which will be worn by penguins who are waiting to be cleaned by the Animal Rescue staff. In only few days 600 got to the theyarnkitchen blogger’s address.

On the website skeinz.com you can also buy Flip Rescue Fund Penguin Mascot together with a set of jumpers and the 100% of all the money raised through the sale of the jumpers goes back to the penguins via the Penguin Rescue Fund.

A very lucky day today!

Stamattina mi sono avvicinata alla finestra per aprirla e far cambiare l’aria nella stanza e con grande sorpresa e profonda gioia ho trovato una coccinella che passeggiava sulla mia finestra.
Grazie coccinella, sono sicura che renderai questo giorno molto fortunato!

This morning I got to the window to open it and bring fresh air to the room  and with great surprise and joy I found a ladybug having a walk on my window.

NaKniSweMo – KAL 2011!

Mi sono fatta un prendere la mano dai KAL, da che mai a che due nello stesso mese. Il primo in assoluto è stato La Donna del Mistero, uno scialle di Emma Fassio…a proposito siamo già all’indizio 4….ancora un’altra settimana e lo scialle sarà pronto per essere indossato!

E il secondo KAL al quale sto partecipando è il NaKniSweMo, National Knit a Sweater in the Month of  November, insieme alle amiche dell’omonimo gruppo su Ravelry e alle amiche italiane che si sono lanciate anche loro in quest’avventura promossa all’interno del gruppo di Yards of Yarn.

Durante questo KAL dovremo realizzare un maglione, pullover o cardigan sferruzzando 50.000 maglie durante il  mese di Novembre. Vi starete chiedendo, perché proprio 50.000 maglie? 50.000 maglie perché 50.000 sono le parole che dovranno scrivere i partecipanti al NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) per completare il loro romanzo nel mese di Novembre.

Il modello che ho scelto per questo KAL è Thea di Kim Hargreaves e lo sto sferruzzando con il DK della New Lanark nel colore Russet.

Ieri sera ho finito il dietro è ho totalizzato 14.691 maglie…

I can definitely say that I got into the KAL mood. I had never join and KAL and this month I decided to join into two of them. My first KAL La Donna del Mistero, a shawl by Emma Fassio ….by the way we already got to clue 4…another wee and the shawl will be ready to wear!

The second KAL I joined is NaKniSweMo, National Knit a Sweater in the Month of  November together with the knitters from the NaKniSweMo group on Ravelry and with the Italian knitters  from the Yards of Yarn group.

During thi KAL we will have to knit a sweater, pullover or cardigan working 50,000 stitches in the month of November. You might be wondering why 50,000 stitches? The reason is that 50,000 are the words the participants to NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) will have to write to complete their novel.

The pattern I choose for this KAL is Thea by Kim Hartgreaves and I am knitting it with the New Lanark DK in the shade Russet.

Yesterday evening I finished the back totalising 14.691 stitches…

Federicaknits in “A Pattern a Day Calendar” 2011

Sfoglia sfoglia, pagina dopo pagina, giorno dopo giorno, ecco che siamo arrivati all’11 novembre 2011!

A parte tutte le considerazioni dell’importanza di questa data perché 11/11/11, è un palindromo di 12 cifre irripetibile nel calendario gregoriano, questo giorno per me è un po’ speciale per due motivi: 1) è il compleanno di mio marito; 2) la mia Vertical Waves Baby Blanket è stata pubblicata su Knitting a Pattern-A-Day Calendar 2011!

Turn and turn, page after page, day after day and here we are, it is November, 11, 2011!

Not considering the fact that 11/11/11 is an 11-figure palindrome which will never occur again in the Gregorian calendar, this day is important for me for two reasons: 1) it is my husband’s birthday; 2) my patter “Vertical Waves Baby Blanket” has been published on Knitting a Pattern-A-Day Calendar 2011!
