In order to complete your “Perle di Llama” set, here it is, the “Perle di Llama” hat knitted with straight needles and sewn afterwards. The pattern presents the same fabric characteristics of the fingerless mittens:  cables, bobbles and I-cord bind off …the only additional technique if the use of decreses working knitting two stitched together (k2tog)!

Nostalgia dei ferri a doppia punta – Nostalgia for DPN’s

Da quando ho imparato la tecnica del “magic loop” i miei bellissimi ferri a doppia punta di legno sono stati relegati in un angolino e rispolverati solo per fare i campioncini, dato che per lavorare solo poche maglia sono più veloci rispetto a montare le punte intercambiabili al cavo….ma oggi eccoli qui sentivo il bisogno di usarli di nuovo e per il loro scopo principale, cioè la lavorazione in tondo! (Sullo sfondo il coperchio della mia scatola di latta dal sapore un po’ vintage in attesa di procurarmi una ciotola portagomitoli”.

Since I learnt the “Magic Loop” technique my beautiful wooden dpns have been put aside  in a corner and used only for swatching, as when you have to knit only a few stitches  it is much more convenient to grab a couple of dpns from the jar than attaching the interchangeable needles to the cable….but today I needed to use my lovely dpns for their original  purpose, that is knitting in round! (On the background the tin box with a vintage touch I am using while waiting to put my hands on a yarn bowl.

Per la serie il postino suona sempre due volte! (ieri la prima) oggi un altro stupendo, graditissimo pacchetto, questa volta dal Galles dalla mia amica Judy, che conoscendo la mia passione per la maglia mi ha inviato questa bellissima matassa di  filato Made in Wales, Giotto della Colinette Yarns  nel colore Autumn Leaves.

As the postman always rings twice (yesterday the first time) today with great excitement I got another parcel, this time from my friend Judy who lives in Wales. As we knows very well my passion for knitting she sent me a lovely skein of yarn Made in Wales, it is Giotto by Colinette Yarns in the colour shade Autummn Leaves!

Dling dlong! Chi è? ….Fedex….eccitazione a livelli esagerati…mi piace tantissimo ricevere pacchi!….salgo a casa! Da Abu Dhabi….Monica…spacchetto immediatamente e non posso credere ai miei occhi! La mia cara amica Monica mi ha inviato il libro  “Julia’s Kitchen Wisdom”. Mi viene subito in mente la serata cha abbiamo trascorso insieme nella mia casetta di Pisa a farci prendere dalla travolgente simpatia di Julia Child, interpretata da Meryl Streep, e dalla forza di volontà di Julie Powell che decide di sperimentare personalmente le 524 ricette di Julia in 365 giorni e di raccontare l’esperienza sul suo blog!

Grazie mille Moni! Spero che riusciremo a rivedere il film insieme molto presto!

My dear friend Monica sent me the book “Julia’s Kitchen Wisdom”. I suddenly recall the great night we spent together in my home in Pisa  hooked by the cheeriness of Julia Child, interpreted by Meryl Streep, and the power of will of Julie Powell who decided to personally experimenting Julia’s 524 recipes in 365 days and to report the deed on her blog!

Thank you very much Moni! …I hope we will be able to watch the film together soon!

A tavola Cibo Degli Dei, e Cappellini di Babbo Natale – God’s Food and Santa Claus’ Hats on the table

Stamattina le miei papille gustative hanno goduto grazie alla marmellata di cachi con Rhum e spezie (zenzero, noce moscata e cannella) che ho fatto come segnaposto per i maschietti che hanno cenato in nostra compagnia per la vigilia di Natale. Un infinito grazie a Massimo per aver fornito la “divina” mela d’Oriente dei suoi alberelli di Susa….divina di nome, visto che il nome scientifico Diospyros significa proprio “cibo degli dei”, e di fatto.

Per le femminucce invece un bel cappellino di Babbo Natale con pom pom e nastrino a quadretti appoggiato su un portafotografie di metallo con piedistallo in plastica trasparente!

This morning my taste buds are joyous thanks to the Asian Persimmon jam with rhum and spices (ginger, muscat nut and cinnamon) I made to give to my male guests at Christmas Eve dinner. A big thank to Massimo who provided the “divine”  Asian Persimmon from his trees in Susa….divine in word, its scientific name is Diospyros which means “God’s Food”, and deed.

For my female guests I knitted a Santa Claus’ Hat, with a pom pom and a red and white check ribbon, which I put on a photo holder with a plastic see-through base!

“The King’s Speech” Vest – Il gilet del “discorso del Re”

Gennaio 2011, nel buio della sala cinematografica tutta l’attenzione degli spettatori era rivolta a Giorgio V, il re affetto da balbuzie protagonista del “Discroso del Re”, e il mio caro marito mi sussurra all’orecchio: “Che bello quel gilet indossato dal Dr. Lionel George Logue? Me lo faresti?”.

Sono rimasta a dir poco stupida, tutto mi sarei aspettata tranne che notasse gli abiti indossati dall’attore Geoffrey Rush, e ho pensato che doveva essergli piaciuto davvero tanto, quindi eccolo accontentato il gilet del Dr. George!

January 2011, in the darkness of the cinema the attention of the audience was all for George V, the king affected by stuttering  starred by Colin Firth in “The King’s Speech”, and my DH whispers to my ear: “What a nice vest Dr. Lionel George Logue is wearing? Would you knit it for me?”.

I got astonished, I would have never expected he would pay attention to Geoffrey Rush’s outfit, then I thought that he must have got truly hooked on that vest and to make him happy…. here it is, Dr. George’s vest!

Alpaca Peasy Pullover

Ecco, mi sono fatta di nuovo tentare dal  “Kal form Italy Group”. Si tratta del Kal di dicembre, ma dato che ancora molte delle knitters hanno dovuto rallentare per fare spazio ai regali di Natale, forse riesco a recuperare!

1,2,3…..avvio le maglie del Peasy di Heidi Kirrmaier con il morbidissimo filato Alpaca Drops e trasformerò il modello da cardigan a pullover iniziando a lavorare in tondo subito dopo la parte traforata.

 

Here we are, it happened again! I surrendered to the temptation to join the December KAL launched by  the “Kal form Italy Group”. Quite a few knitters had to slow down to knit Christmas presence, this means that I might be able to catch up!

1,2,3…..I am just going to cast on the stitched for Peasy di Heidi Kirrmaier with the super soft Alpaca Drops yarn and I will change the cardigan into a pullover knitting in the round just after the lace part.

Eventually Thea! – Finalmente Thea!

Con circa un mese di ritardo rispetto alla deadline ecco il mio Thea pronto per essere indossato per le feste! Ci è voluto un po’ ma sono pienamente soddisfatta del mio nuovo cardigan in tweed con il tocco vintage dei bottoni di legno degli anni ’70 che ho comprato a marzo a Londra a Notting Hill, dopo aver costretto la mia amica Sandra ad aiutarmi a rivoltare da cima a fondo la bancarella dell’antiquario con il quale ha messo in pratica tutte le sue doti di contattazione riuscendo ad ottenere un ottimo sconto! Grazie Sandra!

About a month after the deadline here it is my Thea, ready to be worn during the holidays! It took a while but I can say that I am fully satisfied with my new tweed cardigan with the vintage twist of the original 70′s buttons I bought at Notting Hill in London in March during my last trip, after forcing Sandra to help my out rummaging the stall of an antiques seller she manage to persuade to give us a good discount on the price. Thank you Sandra!
